Sew Precious didn’t begin as a business — it began as a lifelong love of sewing. I first picked up a needle and thread at the age of seven, and now, at almost fifty‑three, sewing has been part of my life for more than four decades. It has always been my quiet place, my creative outlet, and the way I make sense of the world.
But the true beginning of Sew Precious came much later, during a time of loss, separation, and reflection. In the lockdown years — when families were kept apart and grief felt heavier than ever — I found myself turning to fabric as a way to feel close to the people I missed.
The first keepsake I ever made was deeply personal: a bear created from my nan’s embroidered handkerchiefs, a doily from her dressing table, my grandad’s handkerchief he handed to me from her funeral, and a jumper that echoed the golf‑style knitwear he always wore. It wasn’t perfect, but it was meaningful. It held them. It held their story.
Around the same time, my hairdresser and much‑valued friend, Kath — who shared my deep bond with her own grandparents — became my very first customer. Her encouragement planted a seed I didn’t even realise was ready to grow.
From those early stitches, Sew Precious was born. Not from a business plan, but from a lifetime of sewing, a heart full of memories, and a desire to help people hold onto the people they love.
